A Busy Day!

Things Accomplished in Fiction: So much! We're reintroduced to the main cast from the first book (Lost Angels), we're shown the true colors of a character that previously didn't have much stage time (but showed up in the first book as well) and we're given a glimpse into one of the antagonists.

Things Accomplished in Real Life: Today I got a day off I wasn't expecting, and I spent it over at my mom's going through old boxes to see what we could find. I found all my copies of the Gothic and Lolita Bible, some books I didn't realize I'd lost, and a bunch of random knick-knacks and games I thought were neat.

I'm excited to have found my Gothic and Lolita Bible issues, as they have patterns inside that I can use to make my own clothes. I'm not going to tonight but I might make a purse from some left over material I've got in the closet. Also, some of the pictures inside o…

Things Accomplished in Fiction: Finished the first fight, and am about to take Laura to another area where the original cast will be reintroduced and subplot #1 will start. This is my word count as of right now. If I do more then I'll count that towards tomorrow's post (assuming I'm not a total failure at life and remember to actually post!)

Things Accomplished in Real Life: Lately, I've been looking into something I used to be wildly interested in during high school but had mostly forgotten about until recently.

Lolita fashion.

Wikipedia defines Lolita as "a fashion subculture originating in japan that is based on Victorian and Edwardian clothing" so you can probably see why someone like me would like it. Lolita is one of the only clothing styles out there that will get me to wear anything besides black, and even then there's an entire style called "Gothic Lolita" that …

Back to Work Again! Yay!

Things Accomplished in Fiction: The MC's position within the neighborhood is defined, and a new friend has been introduced. I'm calling it a night work-wise because I need a minute to think about where I want to go next. I might try to do something of an outline but I doubt it. I've tried outlining this one before and I've only ever gotten this far before I stopped and decided it was best just to go at it. I'm hoping maybe a good night's sleep will help.

Things Accomplished in Real Life: My biggest accomplishment, to be honest, is starting work again. For a while now my creativity well has been kind of dry because I've been stressed out about other stuff in my life. This past week hasn't helped either and has, in fact, made things worse. Today I went shopping with my mom and bought Lana Del Rey's "Born to Die" Album in vinyl and a re…

Table Refurbishing

To be honest this post should count more for today than Saturday, because (though most of the work was done on Saturday) we didn't REALLY finish until today.

So I'm going to call this one the post for To-Saturday:

I'm one of those people who go onto Pinterest and finds projects to do that, usually, wind up only half as nice as the one that gave me the idea in the first place.

This was not one of those times.

I took an old table that Danny brought with him when we moved in together, painted it, and turned it into a fairly nice piece of furniture that I'm happy will be a part of our bedroom!

Saturday night Danny and I went out to Olive Garden for a fancy dress-up date. I wore my little black sleeveless dress with the spikes on the shoulder straps and he got gussied up in a handsome suit. We don't usually have go out dress-up dates very often. Our dates are mostly stay at homes with movies or video games, just spending time with each other rather than going out and pu…

Girls Night Out!

I meant to update this a few days ago but I haven't been feeling very well, so this was one on a long list of responsibilities that I've been shirking while I've been trying to get better again. I'm playing catch-up tonight, so the next few posts are going to be chronicling the last few days.

This post is for Friday:

My time at work has been abysmal the last few days. Management has been stressing me out with a plethora of catty, behind-my-back chatter and blatant humiliation in front of other employees, so I really needed a night out. Luckily, my best friend Robyn had the brilliant idea to go cosmic bowling at our local alley.

At first, it was just going to be the two of us but at the last minute, some girls from her work wanted to come with. Why not? The more the merrier! Initially, I was nervous about hanging out with a bunch of people I didn't know. As hard as I try to be social with strangers I just end up coming off as stupid or, when I stay quiet until I get…

The Homicidal Homemaker

I have an incredible affinity for all things horror. I like watching horror movies and reading scary novels (Louis Duncan was an early favorite of mine, and even now when I re-read her books I find myself instantly enthralled. She really knows how to infuse a genuinely unsettling story with the Young Adult genre in a way that doesn't belittle either). The Shadow Over Innsmouth by H.P. Lovecraft and The Fall of the House of Usher by Edgar Allan Poe are just a few of the ones that have held my attention the most lately. Though I will always cite Mary Shelley's Frankenstein as my #1 favorite of the classics.

Rockabilly is another passion of mine. In its most basic terms, Rockabilly is throwing oneself back into a pseudo-1950's era and indulging in swing skirts, atomic clocks, and adorning one's home in record-based decor. This is, of course, by no means an all-inclusive list as much as it is just an example, but I feel it's a pretty comprehensive example.

When you co…
